Municipality of Peja to join the Smart City Kosova Project

The Rector of UBT, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, and the Director of Institute for Urban Studies, Shqiprim Ahmeti, were hosted by the Mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri, and the Director of the Directorate for Urbanism and Protection. Environmentalists, Rajan Arapi, who have widely discussed about implementing the projects of “Smart City Kosova” as well as the Urban Sustainability Index.

Smart City Kosova is a project involving five world-wide well known universities, UBT from Kosovo, TU Wien from Austria, ETH Zurich from Switzerland, Hafen City Universitat from Germany, and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University from Turkey, which are comprised of over 20 experts from academia and partner institutions. Moreover, this project aims to set up strategies for smart cities, with innovative approaches to local urban problems.

Meanwhile, the Urban Sustainability Index is an instrument that allows planners to measure the socio-economic and environmental impact of current urban models, infrastructure, etc. Obviously, these two projects, initiated by UBT, specifically by the Center for Urban Studies, are expected to be implemented in the municipalities of Prishtina, Gjilan, Prizren, Lipjan and Vushtrri.
